Detroit, November 29, 2008: General Motors’ milestone 100th anniversary will likely be remembered as much for what’s ahead than what has come before. That’s saying a lot, considering that GM has produced more than 450 million cars since 1908. The highlight: GM used its Centennial event to pull the wraps off the production version of the highly anticipated Chevrolet Volt electric car.

Say it like you mean it with “nice parking” cards

Say it like you mean it with “nice parking” cards
Posted Nov 30th 2008 10:46AM by Noah JosephFiled under: Etc. Sarcasm, they say, is the lowest form of wit, but in some situations it’s the only thing that will do. Take a poor parking job, for example. We’ve all been there, we’ve all seen it, and we’ve all had the same thoughts. And since anything and everything can be merchandised these days – including our thoughts – it was only a matter of time before someone brought something like this to market. And that someone is Jack Spade, who’s offering a set of cards that read “nice parking” — perfect for sticking under the windshield wiper of particularly offensively-parked vehicles. Last year’s Motor4Toys event, which collected more than 15,000 toys for needy kids

We started our monthly calendar of events last month and learned almost immediately that we will never be able to make it as comprehensive as everyone would like, but that’s where you come in. Take a look at the list we’ve put together for December after the jump, and if you see changes that need to be made or events you’d like to add, leave a comment with event info and a link. MUMBAI, India — Yet another challenge is facing the U.S. auto industry. And this time, it isn’t coming from Japan, South Korea, or Germany — or the economy.

In the next few years, Indian automakers and parts suppliers, long outcasts because of lackluster innovation and dormant technology, have ambitious plans to sell cars to American consumers and peddle parts to carmakers in the United States.

India’s anticipated foray into the already-downtrodden U.S. automotive market poses an immediate threat to Detroit’s Big Three and their domestic suppliers, already under threat of bankruptcy because of lagging sales, a tightening credit market, and competition from Asian automakers.

Indian automakers, aggressively recruiting engineers and ramping up research and development teams, are emphatic their entrance into the U.S.

Why Big 3 can’t follow steel’s path

Written by auto on Sunday, November 30th, 2008 in auto.

Earlier this decade, when it was battered by cheap imports and burdened with pension and health care obligations, America’s hemorrhaging steel industry ensured its survival by swallowing the bitter pill of bankruptcy.

Throwing themselves at the mercy of judges who kept creditors at bay, Bethlehem Steel and other Rust Belt icons shed $8 billion in pension obligations and instantly made themselves more attractive targets for acquirers.

Kensington iPod and iPhone LiquidAUX Deluxe car kit

Kensington iPod and iPhone LiquidAUX Deluxe car kit
Auto Express Car Reviews 30th November 2008 Such is the popularity of the iPod, many car manufacturers now include standard auxiliary inputs for their stereos, so drivers can plug in their Apple device. But most connections don’t charge or control it – and that’s where Kensington’s new LiquidAUX kit comes in.The Deluxe model tested here has a ‘smart cradle’ which can hold your iPod in both landscape and portrait modes. In the former, it only releases the top arm to prevent dock damage. The sliding 30-pin connector also works well, providing a perfect fit for a variety of Apple models. The plastics used look good, if a little shiny, but they were a touch prone to marking if carelessly handled. (Read the full post about ‘Kensington iPod and iPhone LiquidAUX Deluxe car kit’…)

Five-star cars’ whiplash shock
Auto Express Car Reviews By Will McManus30th November 2008 Euro NCAP is whipping motor manufacturers into shape! The independent crash testing body has introduced a rear impact assessment, to measure the level of whiplash protection a car provides. And the first batch of results has shown a number of models with five-star ratings are falling short of the mark. The Peugeot 308 CC, Ford Kuga and Citroen C5 were all awarded top scores for adult occupation protection – but were among the bottom five in the new whiplash test. The C5, plus Suzuki’s Splash and Daihatsu’s Terios, picked up zero marks in the study – while Volvo’s XC60 came top. Race Glaze Pre-Wax Cleaner
Auto Express Car Reviews 30th November 2008 Key to getting the best finish when waxing is good preparation – and Race Glaze’s new Pre-Wax Cleaner does just that. It removes old wax and grime and replenishes paint with its blend of oils. Designed for quick and easy use, it’s non-abrasive, unlike a polish. Plus, Pre-Wax helps fine waxes bond better with the paint – even if the car has just been sprayed. Tags: cars, new cars, toyota, cool cars (Read the full post about ‘Race Glaze Pre-Wax Cleaner’…)
